Our work

Projects

Bethel Mission runs two projects. In Nellipudi we support children's education, provide livelihood resources to widows, and keep welcoming spaces open for children to learn and grow. In Chennai we run Bethel Nursery and Primary School.

Nellipudi Project

Nellipudi

Three strands of work that support one another: children stay in school, their mothers and grandmothers regain a livelihood, and the whole community has a place where children are welcome.

Education

Educational support to children

Books, bags, uniforms and learning materials for children whose families cannot meet those costs. We follow each child through the school year so that a hard season at home does not end their education.

Livelihood

Supporting widows with livelihood resources

Widows waiting together on a distribution day. We provide groceries and practical material which they can't get on their own — restoring dignity and independence, and keeping their households together after the loss of a husband's earnings.

Community

Welcoming spaces for children

A room full of raised hands. Somewhere safe to be after school, where children can learn, grow and build confidence with adults who know them and expect the best of them.

Chennai Project

Chennai

Bethel Nursery and Primary School gives children in the community their first years of formal education, close to home and within reach of families who could not otherwise afford it.

School

Bethel Nursery and Primary School

Pupils and teachers gathered in the school yard for Independence Day. Nursery and primary classes for children of the surrounding community give the youngest a settled start — the years that decide whether a child keeps going with their education.

School life

A day at the school

Independence Day at the school: bunting strung across the yard and children dressed as the figures they have been learning about. Days like this are the rhythm that keeps children coming back through the year.
